Young aces serve up a feast of tennis at Umhlali
Dolphin Coast Junior Spar Tournament.
Chanel Bates (U13) was the winner of the Fellowship trophy at the annual Dolphin Coast Junior Spar Tennis Tournament at Umhlali Country Club last week, July 7 to 10.
The Fellowship trophy is awarded to the player who displays true spirit, sportsmanship, kindness and support towards other players throughout the tournament.
This year the tournament was jointly sponsored by Tiffany’s Superspar and the Umhlali Men’s Tuesday tennis group, which is the club’s longest standing social tennis group dating back more than twenty years.
“After a delayed start due to Monday morning’s rain we had good but somewhat cold weather for the remainder of the tournament.
It was great to have some new faces taking part with a number of children from in and around Durban as well as from Zululand coming through to Ballito to compete,” said professional tennis coach and event organiser Roger Ferrandi.
The boys and girls all took part in singles, doubles and mixed doubles categories in the various age groups – with some doubles teams really dressing up for the occasion.
“This year we had four triple winners with Josh Haveman in the U9 age group, Anna Wise U11 , Kylie Misdorp U13 and Meg Bateman U15 all managing to win the singles, doubles and mixed doubles categories,” said Ferrandi.
