Ballito’s Delish Sisters

Two peas in a pod.

All thanks to the foodie delight that is ‘The Delish Sisters’ a balanced diet has now become a slow roasted lamb naan in one hand and a double chocolate fudge brownie in the other. Frequent market goers and avid Delish fans will agree, having tasted the delicacies made by the young chef sisters, Rebecca and Kate Lund.

These two peas in a pod go together like Mac and cheese with their bubbling and radiating personalities topped off with big smiles. Red lips, feminine dresses and navy blue All-Stars as their defining traits.

Their increasingly popular market food stall and catering company have been blowing people away with their amazing food since last December with the queues getting longer at every market.

The pairs’ passion and culinary skills filtered down from their home economics teacher of a mother.

“Cooking just came naturally for us. We used to sit in the kitchen watching our mom cook while we played with our play-dough pretending to host our own cooking show,” said the Lund sisters.

Even though they went to boarding school and ventured on to other avenues while studying further – food has always been the one constant thing in their lives.

Rebecca (25) went to the University of Cape Town to study Film and Media, interned at ELLE magazine, worked at PR and Ad agencies as well as working as a copy writer.

Kate (23) studied health and beauty at Stellenbosch University, travelled overseas and worked at a dermatological practice.

It started out as a humble little stall at the Wonder Market in Umhlanga one rainy day in December last year after months of procrastination, to now running the kitchen at ‘The Ballito House Boutique Hotel’.

“We thought markets would be a great place to start – no rent, figure out the public’s likes and dislikes and see if there was a gap in the market for our style of food.”

Both have since quit their jobs to live their dream full time.

Pop into The Ballito House to meet these lovely ladies and taste their food from the beginning of August. They will be serving brunches, Harvest Table style lunches and more.

“We have a fun-loving and quirky take on classic food. We are very much about eating with your eyes.”
