Donate breast milk

Urging all mothers with healthy lifestyles who are currently breastfeeding to consider donating lifesaving breast milk to a vulnerable infant.

Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of child's life is considered a 'pillar of child survival', especially in the first 1000 days of life.

Breast milk provides important digestive enzymes that assist in digestion, immunological factors that strengthen immunity, growth factors to promote growth and hormones. Breast milk is the “clinical standard” for preterm (including very low birth weight) and term infants.

Stanger Hospital will host a breast milk drive on August 4 at the Ballito Clinic at 9am.

They are urging all mothers with healthy lifestyles who are currently breastfeeding to consider donating lifesaving breast milk to a vulnerable infant.

If you would like to donate, you should be in good health, a non-smoker and you must consent to being tested for HIV.

Approved donors have to practice rigorous safety measures for safe storage of milk at home.
