Fire engulfs shacks near Tongaat

Twenty homes were destroyed.

A fire in the Mbayi informal settlement near Tongaat spread quickly, engulfing twenty shacks earlier today.
According to resident Lwazi Myandeni the fire started from the shack where a four-year-old boy had allegedly been left alone by his mother who was at work at that time.
The child was not injured.
“We are not sure what exactly caused the fire,” said Mnyandeni.

The eThekweni fire department were on scene to fight the fire.
