ACDP branch stands with Israel
Political party to oppose the idea of a Palestine solidarity march.
The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) was the only political party to oppose the idea of a Palestine solidarity march at a KwaDukuza full council meeting on Thursday.
ACDP councillor reverend Nel Sewraj asked council to distance itself from the planned march amid loud comments from other councillors.
“I asked council to refrain from any direct involvement in this march because KDM represents all citizens, including Jews. This march expresses anti-Israeli sentiments by calling the public to stand in solidarity with Palestine only. They are even calling it the 'Palestine Solidarity' march. Also, while the march calls for support from various organisations, it is initiated by an Islamic organisation which gives it a pro-Palestinian bias already. ACDP is pro-peace – not pro-Palestinian. Furthermore, I believe the municipality was too impulsive in coughing-up R80 000 of ratepayers monies in support of this march. We do not support KDM's decision.”
Following the meeting ACDP branches met in Ballito to outline their stance on the ongoing Palestine-Israel conflict in Gaza.
“The ACDP established that it will support Israel's right to defend herself against the terrorist group, Hamas.”
