Ashton Junior International College took audiences along little Oliver Twist’s journey in their second school production in their new Grace Hall.
Director and choreographer Cara Davidson had a tall order of recreating a classic musical on such a giant stage with all the pupils from grade one all the way up to seven along with their teachers. The show was a great success.
Pupils placed in the demanding lead roles gave all-star performances with on point singing and characterisation.
Little Romy Rushton who played the lead role of Oliver blew away audiences with her acting and memorable rendition of “Where is love”.
Staff member David de Vries was also a stand out performer with his very passionate and comedic portrayal of Mr Bill Sykes in his introductory solo.
The stage was elaborately transformed smoothly from one scene to the next thanks to set designer Bebhinn Spoors.
The set and props filled the big stage and helped transport the audience into the life of Oliver with the clever use of a giant LED screen displaying detailed backdrops. Costumes were well thought out right down to the last detail.
The use of a small live orchestra added a very special element to the production.
