Shakashead’s Jet Li wins gold

Karate champion does SA proud at the GTF European Taekwon-Do Championship held in Italy.

A Shakashead karate champ won his sparring super hyper heavyweight gold medal in less than 20 seconds.

Lucky Ndlovu left his Greek opponent without front teeth, at the GTF European Taekwon-Do Championship held in Italy last month.

“After the fight I was not happy about the way I won. I did not want to hurt him. But a fight is a fight and he could have done the same thing to me,” said Lucky.

The passionate sportsman started karate in primary school. In 1997 he started body building and in 2006 joined the Taekwon-Do team at the Marital Art Masters Academy in Ballito.

In preparation for the GTF he joined the cross fit team at the Iron Angel.

Ndlovu is now preparing himself for the first GTF open International Championship in South Africa at the Durban ICC in December.

The event is being organised by his instructor Guk- Jae Sabum Nim Vladimir Grachev.

This was not Ndlovu’s first time representing his country.

In 2010 he went to Kazakhstan and returned with two bronze medals for team sparring and individual.

In 2011 he brought home a gold medal from Scotland and in 2012 he went to Canada, returning with a gold medal in special techniques and a bronze for sparring.

“In 2013 I decided to give Samukelo Maphumulo, my student, an opportunity to fight in Northern Cyprus and he came back with two silver medals. One for patterns and one for sparring.”

Ndlovu thanked his instructor for the best training as well as the crossfit team.

“I would also like to thank all the sponsors who contributed to my trip to Italy.”

In the GTF Taekwon-Do team Miki Oshua also brought home a gold medal. Victor Aparicio and Humaira Khan bagged silver. For patterns Humaira Khan also took a silver and Victor Aparicio and Miki Oshua took bronze.
