Woman killed, three critical at Darnall accident

Jaws of Life used to free entrapped critical patients.

A woman was killed  and five others were injured in a horrific accident on the R102 just south of Darnall this afternoon.

A bakkie and a taxi collided just around 4pm.

It took emergency workers 45 minutes to extract three critical patients from their vehicles. The fire department and paramedics used the Jaws of Life to free the injured as carefully as possible from the wreckages.

IPSS Medical Rescue, Netcare 911, Rural Metro and EMRS all assisted at the accident, transporting the injured to local hospitals.

The road has been re-opened to traffic.
