Weekend crime report

A round up of the crime in your area.

The following crimes were attended to by Umhlali SAPS this weekend.

  •  Two vehicles were stolen over the weekend: one Toyota Camry and a new Ford Ranger. Both vehicles were stolen from beach parking lots.
  •  A business robbery took place at Pep Stores in Shakaskraal. Four armed men allegedly robbed the store of R9000 in cash. They were in a white Corsa bakkie.
  •  Two house break-ins were reported in Nkobongo and Shayamoya. Residents are advised to talk with their neighbours to ensure their homes are not left unprotected.
  •  A man was severely assaulted at the Nkobongo Hall. He was attacked with a stick and bushknife and sustained a headwound. A case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm is being investigated.
  •  A case of ATM card fraud was reported in Shakaskraal. The victim had R3000 withdrawn from their account minutes after the incident.
  •  There was a house break-in at Hugh Dent Drive, Salt Rock. The sliding door was forced open.
  •  A suspected robber was arrested over the weekend, thanks to teamwork from the Ballito Neighbourhood Watch, Chubb, IPSS Security and Umhlali SAPS. Two break-ins had been reported after BNW patrol members saw a suspicious car on Zen and Hilary Drive. IPSS, SAPS and Chubb chased the car and managed to recover a number of stolen items, which were later returned to their owners.

Thirty-six people were arrested over the weekend: 19 for consuming liquor in public, five for possession of drugs, three for selling liquor without a license and nine for road traffic offences.
