Top cars smoke up Ballito

Son beats his father in the final.

Porsche GT 2’s and 3s, Ferraris, a Lamborghini, a BMW Super bike and even modified production cars like a Ford Focus and VW Golf smoked up the track at the second edition of the SMD Ballito Street Heroes, last weekend.

Defending champion Desmond Gutzeit looked set to take the win for the second consecutive year, but his own son Jade Gutzeit snatched it from him.

Jade kicked into high gear and smoked everyone out of the final with an impressive lap time of 48.7 seconds – the fastest time of the entire weekend, even faster than the BMW Super bike.

Desmond had had a sneaking suspicion, leading up to the event, that his son could steal the win from him.

The second fastest time in the final was by Willie de Beer at a time of 51.4 seconds and third place went to Mike Mcloughlin in a time of 51.9.

It was an exciting final with each driver bettering the time of the driver before, making it anyone’s game.

Desmond Gutzeit was in the lead with a time of 52.4, as most people anticipated, until Raj Naidoo carded a 52.1 knocking him out of first place.

Willie de Beer then shot well into the lead with his time of 51.4.

Jade far exceeded expectations taking the time to beat into the 40 second range with his impressive start accelerations and neat and tidy laps.

The top 10 fastest times of the weekend from across all the classes qualified for the final.

First, second and third place in the ‘Bowl Final’ (drivers with the 11th to the 20th fastest times of the weekend) were taken by Stuart Kidgell, Mason Moodley and Jason Evans respectively.

Jason Evans drove a Ford Focus and achieved the fastest time of 54.6 seconds in a front wheel driven car.

Also on show were the dare devil skills of the drifters and stunt motorcycle rider.
