Dog poisoning case – final adjournment

Due to issues involving the video footage evidence the case was postponed until October 8.

The case of the alleged dog poisoning of Amir Abbas’ German Shephard in Salisbury Drive, on January 18, has been postponed again for final adjournment on October 8 at the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court.

The accused appeared in court on Tuesday for trial but due to issues involving the video footage evidence the case was postponed. The accused has not yet been asked to plead.

The accused is currently facing charges of damage to property and animal cruelty – for the deaths of Bella and Abbas’ other dog, Tyke.

It was alleged that the accused fed Abbas’ German Shephard, Bella, poisoned sausages, which killed her.

Video footage from only one of the 12 cameras on Abbas’ property had been viewed. There is a second camera that has additional footage of the incident but has not been viewed properly by the state prosecutor or the defense.

In order for the accused to be tried fairly the state and the defense agreed to postpone the trial so as to have the opportunity to view all the evidence. Apparently the footage had been obtained by and kept by Umhlali police but there is no equipment available at the police station to view the footage.
