New Guelderland wins inaugural soccer title

Sixteen KwaDukuza primary school soccer teams took part in the first annual one-day U13 tournament.

Sixteen KwaDukuza primary school soccer teams took part in the first annual one-day U13 tournament held at Stanger High School on September 6.

The Stanger Muslim Association (SMA) partnered with KZN sports and recreation and the iLembe district municipality to make the event possible.

New Guelderland Primary beat Aldinville Primary on penalties in the tournament final before the boys were treated to an exhibition match between Legends One and Legends Two. Legends one, sporting big names like KwaDukuza sports officers Nkosi Nzuza and Sizwe Zulu, KwaDukuza and iLembe councillor Andrew Gopaul and department of education organiser Kura Buthelezi, triumphed over Legends Two by three goals to one. KwaDukuza sports manager Wiseman Cele gave his best for Legends Two.

“This tournament is the start of bigger things with U13 and U16 leagues for local schools scheduled to start next year”, said SMA spokesperson Shain Manjoo.
