Joburg family, pregnant woman, killed in Mandeni accident

Four dead and eight injured.

A car carrying three Joburg holiday-makers and a taxi collided on the R102 between Mandeni and Gingindlovu at about 5pm yesterday.

All three occupants of the Nissan Fiesta, including an eight month pregnant woman, died on impact.

IPSS Medical Rescue paramedic Paul Herbst said he believed the pregnant woman and the two young men she was traveling with were siblings.

One of the taxi’s occupants was also killed by the accident and eight others were injured.

“Two of the taxi’s passengers were critically injured,” said Herbst.

IPSS and other ambulance services transported the injured to hospital.

Herbst said they have already attended to six accidents this weekend.

“This weekend has been absolute carnage on the North Coast roads. Well done to all our emergency services, including the Stanger emergency department for being to accommodating, even though they were stretched to the limit on this month-end weekend,” he said.
