Weekend crime report

A decomposed body was found at Armstrong Farm in Umhlali.

Umhlali SAPS attended the following crimes this weekend:

· A decomposed body was found at Armstrong Farm in the Umhlali area on Saturday. The age, gender and cause of the death was indiscernible. The body was taken to Stanger police mortuary.

· A 12-year-old girl was raped, allegedly by her neighbour, in Etete Velani Township on Saturday. The girl was raped in the bushes next to a play ground.

· On Saturday night a Shayamoya resident found the door of his house forced opened and items valued at R10800 were stolen.

· A man was arrested after he and two others tried to steal jewellery from a jewellery shop at Ballito Bay Mall on Saturday.

· A Ballito resident on 75 Hillary drive woke up to find the window of his kitchen forced open and items valued at R8000 were stolen.

· On Saturday a Ballito resident on Mandelaine Drive was sleeping in his lounge and when he woke up he saw a man walking out of his house, when he tried to scream the man turned and threaten him with a firearm and he ran away with the keys for his motorbike, car and house, and a laptop.

· A case of culpable homicide was opened after a vehicle overturned on R614 Noodsburg road at Esinembe. A four-year-old child died at Osindisweni Hospital.

Due to renovations at the Umhlali police station the charge office has been temporarily relocated and as a result only one phone line will be working for the remainder of the week. Lt Colonel Dieter Fittkaue urged residents to be patient and call back if the line is busy. The station also urged residents and holidaymakers not to leave valuable items in their cars when they visit the beach.
