Ballito dog poisoning charges withdrawn

Case withdrawn due to outstanding statements.

Charges of animal cruelty and damage to property against a Ballito resident have been provisionally withdrawn.

The resident, who is accused of killing Amir Abbas’ German Shepherds Bella and Tyke, was informed of the decision on Wednesday, October 8 at the KwaDukuza Regional Court.

The accused allegedly fed Bella poisonous sausages over the fence in Salisbury Drive on January 18, which was captured on CCTV footage.

Abbas said he was told by prosecutors that the withdrawal was due to outstanding statements.

“The statements only got to the state on Tuesday, which would not have been enough time for the defense to review it. The case would then probably have been thrown out of court.”

Abbas is confident that the case will be picked up again.

“I believe the team is doing this the right way and justice will be done. It is just that justice does not work on our time.”
