Ashton Matrics reap the rewards

School celebrates academic achievements.

The 2014 Matrics at Ashton International College celebrated their school career achievements on Thursday October 16 and showed once again that hard work and dedication pays off.

As the pupils prepare for their final Independent Education Board (IEB) exams, executive head Joe Erasmus said the pupils produced outstanding results following their trial examinations.

“We are looking forward to excellent results all round and are really proud of these matrics as they are the first to complete the Senior College cycle,” he said.

At the Valedictory Awards it was head girl Judith Bouwer who took top honours of DUX with seven distinctions and an aggregate of 90,4% and Christopher Birch was Proxime Accessit with 86,9%.

Right behind them was head boy Matthew Kensett with six distinctions and he also scooped the Outstanding Achievement award for an unbelievable 96% for Mathematics.

Academic School Honours were awarded to six students for achieving a year average above 80% including the trial examination results and eight students received full colours for an average of between 75% and 79%.

The sport and culture awards handed out at the ceremony were just as impressive with Damien la Marque and Christopher Golding sharing the Sportsman of the Year award and Carlea van der Linde named Sportswoman of the Year.

Golding received his Cum Laude blazer for his participation in the Commonwealth Games over three years, the Africa Championship Judo Games and being selected to represent his country at the 2014 Africa Youth Games.

Regan Koopmans was awarded the Monique Venter Trophy for contributing towards the continuous growth of culture at the school.

The deputy head boy, Conrad Plekker, received the Good Fellowship award as voted by the matrics and Cristan Sardinha was awarded the All Souls’ award for consistent service to the school.

The Ashton matriculants still have a lot of work ahead with final exams and will only receive their results on 31 December 2014.
