Weekend crime report

Umhlahli SAPS urge residents to be careful this festive season.

Umhlali SAPS attended the following crimes last weekend:

· A Ballito man from Madelaine Drive woke up on Saturday to find that the sliding door of his house had been forced opened on Friday night and items valued at R58,500 had been stolen.

· On Friday a house in Shakashead was broken into and cellphones were stolen.

· A resident on holiday at the Grange, woke up on Saturday morning too find that the premises had been broken into and items valued at R49,500 had been stolen.

· A Shakashead man found the rear left window of his car broken on Saturday morning and a radio was stolen.

· A man had a breakdown along the R102 in Tete on Saturday at about 2pm. He left his car and went for assistance and on his return found the right quarter glass of his car shattered and entry gained to his car. A CD player, speakers, steering wheel cover and money was stolen.

· There was an armed robbery on Chakas Rock Road on Saturday afternoon when a resident was threaten with a firearm.

· A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened after a white Toyota Hilux knocked down two children in Shayamoya on Saturday morning. The driver allegedly fled the scene.

Due to renovations Umhlali SAPS is temporarily relocating the charge office and as a result only one phone line is working.

The police urged residents and holidaymakers not to leave valuable items in their cars when they are going to the beach. They are also appealing to the business sectors to do what they can to increase security as the festive season is around the corner.
