Weekend crime report

Residential break-ins reported.

Umhlali SAPS attended the following crimes on the weekend:

· A couple on 67 Colwyn Drive Sheffield woke up on Friday morning to find the kitchen window broken and entry gained, items valued at R51, 699 were stolen.

· On Friday afternoon an iTete resident found her outside sink tap and a copper pipe stolen.

· Residents of eMtombisa area in upper Tongaat stoned a man to death. The man was accused of killing a child that was found in the pit toilet of his house on Friday afternoon.

· A couple woke up on Saturday morning to find the sliding door of their house on Lamustque Road, Ballito forced opened and items valued at R31500 were stolen.

· On Saturday night a Shakashead resident found the door of his house opened. Blankets, cosmetics and money were stolen.

· A surfer’s car was stolen at Salmon Bay beach on Sunday morning while the surfer went surfing.

* IPSS Security reported two break-ins on Monday night, a business break-in and a residential break-in. Suspects drove off in a maroon BMW on M4 south bound after allegedly firing several shots at IPSS officers. Police patrolled the M4 through to Durban but the suspects got away.

Due to renovations only one phone line is working for the charge office. Colonel Dieter Fittkaue urged residents to be patient and call back if the line is busy. The police urged residents and holidaymakers not to leave valuable items in their cars when they are going to the beach. They are also appealing to the business sectors to do what they can to increase security as the festive season is around the corner.
