Stanger pupil stabbed for cellphone
Grade 11 student reported to be in a serious condition.
A Grade 11 pupil was stabbed in the back at Stanger South Secondary School on Monday. According to initial reports he was attacked by a grade 12 pupil after an altercation over a cellphone.
When the Courier called the school, the principal was not available to comment as she was apparently busy with examinations, however the secretary of the school did confirm that the stabbing took place but refused to give any further details.
Education department spokesperson Muzi Mahlabi said weapons and cellphones are not allowed in schools and the police must intervene.
“We cannot keep criminals in our schools. Necessary actions will be taken and the law must take its course,” said Mahlabi.
The boy was taken to Stanger Hospital by IPSS medical rescue and was reported to be in a serious condition.
