Small truck crashes, injuring 24 outside Ballito

Road closed for more than two hours.

A small open truck carrying at least 27 people crashed outside Ballito between the Umhlali Country Club and R102 this evening.

More than two hours later the road is still closed with paramedics from almost every local ambulance service assisting the 24 people injured in the accident.

When the Courier visited the scene medics were still counting the injured, but there were believed to be 14 with moderate to serious injuries and 10 with minor injuries.

“The patients have been transported to Alberlito Hospital, Victoria Hospital and Stanger Hospital,” said IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst.

The cause of the accident will remain the subject of police investigation.
