Say no to abuse against women and children
Successful awareness drive in Shakaskraal.
Women of Shakaskraal must not sit back and accept abuse in their homes or their work places.
Umhlali SAPS constable Mpumelelo Mbonambi said this at the Democratic Alliance ’16 days of activism against women and children abuse’ awareness function in Shakaskraal on Saturday.
“If you feel that you are being abused in any way, go to any nearest police station and open a case, it does not matter who the abuser is. No one has a right to abuse you,” said Mbonambi.
She also said that some young girls would leave their children with their mothers with no food and go and out to enjoy themselves. “That is also abuse, report it,” she said.
Cancer was the subject addressed by Shakaskraal Clinic sister Voilet Govender, who emphasised the importance of going to a clinic or doctor for regular checkups – before it is too late.
“Anyone can get cancer, male or female, young or old,” said Govender.
Ward 22 councillor Malcolm Hubner said he was happy with the turnout.
“Thank you to the residents who took the time to attend this event and all the speakers we had,” said Hubner.
