Ballito skate park cleaned up for kids

Ballito businesswoman wants play area for local kids.

Ballito businesswoman Tanya Hayward organised a cleaning project to improve the local skate park in town last week to make the place a better play area for local kids.

“The idea for the Park Party started with my birthday,” said Hayward.

“I was turning 40 and wanted to give back to the community rather than have the “normal” birthday party,” she said.

A few months back Hayward and her daughter took a walk through the neighbourhood looking for a park that they can play in and have a good time.

“We stood in the skate park and I thought to myself it would be lovely if she could have a play area where we can play basketball or skateboard. There really are few places on the North Coast, apart from the beach for us as a community to connect, unwind and play,” said Hayward.

She then contacted the municipality and had meetings with community stakeholders and after two months the outreach finally happened.

“Litter is a pet project of mine and through cleaning up the park I wish that we can teach our children and their friends how important it is to look after their environment,” she said.

Friends and family of Hayward, community members and Kwa-Mama Care Center helped to clean the park and enjoyed some great food from Mo-Zam-Bik and cupcakes for Hayward’s birthday.
