Reaching out a helping hand

Company gives new lease on life for local creche.

The Entuthekweni creche was given a new lease on life when a group of good Samaritans reached out a helping hand.

A vibrant team from local recruitment agency, ConinghamLee and Associates (CL&A) gave the Etete based creche a fresh coat of paint, tiled the old unhygienic cement kitchen floor and handed over a much needed brand new gas stove on Friday, December 12.

“This outreach is the culmination of our fundraising project that included a recent golf day and quiz night,” said CL&A’s Calvin Harris.

He said they do upliftment work once a month, choosing schools or organisations that do not have much.

CL&A utilise their staff’s skills to lay sports fields, plant grass, paint school buildings because they prefer to do the work themselves rather than hand out money.

“You tell us what you need and we will do it,” said Harris.

The funds raised also paid for a year’s supply of gas and a Christmas party with gifts for the bubbly little ones.

Creche owner Angel Mashobane is a qualified teacher and fosters ten of the creche’s children while annually preparing about 25 children for school readiness where they pass the required grade one entrance exams.

“I have been running this creche since 1999 and teach the kids math literacy, English and Zulu, how to write their names, the different parts of the body and they memorise their home addresses.

“I am grateful to all the people who donated food all year and who gave us our beautifully colourful classroom furniture and toys,” said Mashobane.

She was also thankful to CL&A for giving the kids a wonderful Christmas party and gifts.

While busy painting, CL&A staff learned that the creche no longer has a fridge and that the washing machine has also packed up.

“Angel does not know it yet but as a surprise we are buying a new fridge for the creche,” said CL&A’s Mike Johr.
