The court case to decide the fate of the PLG Ballito Academy has been postponed to December 29.
The prospect of an affordable high school for middle-income earners within the Ballito area has been in jeopardy since an local businesses objected to the academy.
In response to those objections the KwaDukuza municipality (KDM) applied to the Durban high court in early December to block the school saying that it had not applied in time for special consent to operate.
In turn, PLG accused KDM of acting in bad faith, as it has been dealing with KDM regarding the opening since October.
There is currently no middle-income high school in the Ballito area and the Courier reported on December 12 (“Low fee” school threatened) that the department of education had been trying to build a high school in the Ballito area since 2006 but the land had not been available.
The school has already received 297 enrolments and employed 14 teachers, planning to open its doors on January 21.
