The Hazelmere dam water levels continue to drop and the dam is now at 36.9 percent.
Stage four water restrictions still apply and Siza Water will be turning off water in high use areas as and when necessary to achieve the 30 percent savings goal.
The Dolphin Coast Conservancy is doing its part to encourage Dolphin Coast residents to save water. Towards this end the Conservancy asked members to contribute their own water conservation ideas. This is what they came up with:
· Wash up once a day if possible. Do not rinse/wash individual items under the tap.
· Only turn on your washing machine if you have a full load.
· Put a brick into your cistern, if you have a free-standing toilet unit.
· Fill a cup with water, and use that to wet the brush, brush your teeth and rinse your mouth and toothbrush afterwards.
· Bathe kiddies in a basin, instead of the bath, let them have fun with their toys and save water at the same time.
· If you have a JoJo tank, decant the water into buckets and use it for flushing toilets or topping up your pool.
· The water which runs from your shower prior to it heating up (even if you have a solar heater) is perfectly good, clean water. It can be caught and used to fill up water bowls for pets, kettles and cooking.
· Once used to clean yourself shower water is now known as ‘grey water’ and can be used in several ways. Place a bowl large enough to contain your feet under the shower head, and keep the grey water which results from your shower to flush loos or wash down the patio.
· Change the shower head on your shower if you have a high pressure unit as this uses more water. The amount of water can double depending on what shower head you use.
