Toddler killed in attack on Maphumulo taxi rank manager’s home
Child's brother also injured.
A one-year-old boy was killed and his 12-year-old brother injured after an attack on their house in Maphumulo late on Friday evening, January 16.
According to KwaZulu Natal SAPS spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker, it is alleged that a group of unknown people tried to set the house alight but failed.
They then proceeded to open fire on the house, killing the toddler and injuring his brother.
Their father, a Maphumulo taxi rank manager, was not at home at the time.
Naicker said they do not know the motive of the attack.
However this does follow a surge of taxi related violence in Stanger.
On Wednesday, January 14, a security convoy of the Maphumulo Taxi Association was ambushed in Stanger, killing a taxi owner and a security guard, and injuring another.
One of the attackers was also killed in the shootout.
Police urged anyone with information that can assist in the investigation to contact KwaMaphumulo SAPS on 032-4814400 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
