Eskom’s proposed load shedding calender
A monthly view of the possible load shedding dates up until April.
Eskom announced last week that with large scale maintenance that needs to be done, the country will experience nationwide load shedding at least until the end of April.
The utility’s Chief Executive Tshediso Matona was briefing the country about the state of the system.
Matona compared the national power grid to a car that has skipped its regular maintenance and servicing.
“Load shedding is a painful yet necessary decision to protect the system from a total blackout,” said Matona.
“The country needs to be prepared for load shedding,” he said.
He said Eskom is committed to providing early warning for load shedding and accurate schedules, but that the sytem status can change rapidly. System updates will be communicated through all the media channels and Eskom encourages users to follow them on Twitter for quick updates.
Below are the planned load shedding schedules until April 2015.
- Green: Adequate generation capacity available to meet demand and reserves.
- Yellow: Constrained generation capacity with sufficient supply to meet demand and reserves. Medium probability of load shedding.
- Red: Insufficient generation capacity unable to meet demand and reserves. High probability of load shedding.
