PLG still hangs in the balance

Court case scheduled for arguing on February 10.

The future of the low cost PLG Schools Ballito Academy is still uncertain as the case has been scheduled for arguing on February 10 in the Durban High Court.

With the case is still pending, the school opened its doors on Wednesday, January 21, along with the rest of South Africa’s coastal schools.

The KwaDukuza municipality (KDM) approached the Durban High Court to stop the school from opening after receiving complaints from business owners in the Ballito business park that the school does not have special consent use to occupy the former hotel building and run it as a school.

The PLG group said is has been dealing with KDM since October last year and accused it of acting in bad faith.

The Courier has received phone calls from concerned parents who are uncertain of their children’s future should the school be forced to close.

The schools’ spokesperson Claire Swithenbank-Bowman said at the beginning of last week she would send the Courier a press release drafted by the school’s attorneys. To date we have received no such press release.
