Microlight accident outside Ballito

Pilot recovering after suffering a broken leg.

A microlight pilot suffered a broken leg after an accident near the Ballito airfield on Saturday afternoon.

Dave Jackson from the Ballito Microlight Club said the incident is being investigated by the Civil Aviation Authority.

“There was an engine failure after take-off and the pilot, Dean Margetts tried to land on the open field next to the airfield,” said Jackson.

He said they hit a trench on landing.

Margetts broke a leg, but fortunately his passenger escaped without any major injuries.

The pilot was transported to Netcare Alberlito Hospital where he underwent surgery and is recovering well.
