Celebrating Granny’s birthday in the sky
Grandson takes his gran for a flight in a helicopter on her birthday.
James Damant is probably the most loved grandsons on the North Coast, as he celebrated his grandmother’s 81st birthday with her, in the sky.
The Ashton College matriculant wanted to give his grandmother, fondly known as “Gummy”, an unforgettable birthday, and he did.
“It was the first time that she had flown in a helicopter and she loved it,” he said.
At the beginning of the month they flew along the beach from Durban to Ballito and back over the stadium.
Damant got his private pilot licence through BAC helicopters last December and is currently studying and training for his commercial licence.
He would like to take up a career as a pilot or possibly an aircraft engineer.
Whatever he decides to do, his Gummy will surely be proud of him and probably join him for a few more flights.
