Dagga worth R20 000 destroyed in Tongaat

Hundreds of dagga trees found in Tongaat by SAPS and CPF.

The Umhlali SAPS with the help of the Umhlali Community Policing Forum (CPF) prevented a harvest of dagga worth about R20 000 from hitting the streets.

In a joint operation they found and destroyed about 150 dagga trees in the Waterfall area of upper Tongaat on Thursday, March 5.

According to Umhlali SAPS CPF coordinator warrant officer Eugene Gumede the trees were found on a single plot of land about 20 x 20 metres in size after a tip-off from a resident.

“The street value of this dagga is about R20 000,” said Gumede.

Lt Col Dieter Fittkau said the successful operation was proof that the CPF was working.
