Mandeni Mall robbers were professional, says centre

Gunmen were disguised as customers.

Mandeni Mall management believe the robbery at the mall on Monday, March 9 was orchestrated by professionals who were well informed of the cash in transit details.

A group of armed men robbed a Coin Security cash in transit vehicle, killing one security guard and injuring the two Coin security guards.

“They definitely knew what they were doing and they had it all planned out,” said the centre’s management Matthew McCormick from McCormick Property Development.

McCormick said they are concerned about security with multiple shootings reported in the area over the past few weeks.

“This was an unfortunate event and we are worried about the professionalism with which these robbers attacked the cash in transit vehicle,” said McCormick.

The centre’s security report said Coin Security was collecting money from the Roots Butchery at around 1.40pm.

“One Coin security officer was collecting the money from the Roots office and a second was standing outside the door as his escort,” stated the report from Strongbow security.

They said that there were two robbers in the shop wearing plain clothes, acting like customers.

When Coin security exited the shop with the money, the robbers came from behind and shot at them, injuring both and killing a Strongbow security supervisor in the process.

The report further states that besides the two robbers in the shop, four men were waiting outside with one close to the next shop, Nizams, keeping an eye on events.

The suspects fled and apparently hijacked two getaway vehicles.
