Serious accident in Groutville leaves two critical

Flames engulf vehicle after impact.

Two people are in a critical condition after a head-on collision earlier this afternoon on the R102 in Groutville.

IPSS Medical Rescue paramedic Paul Herbst said according to eye witnesses, one of the vehicles tried to overtake a truck when it slammed into the other vehicle.

“One of the vehicles involved, a Jeep, burst into flames after the collision with a Golf 7. Members of the public managed to pull the man out of the burning vehicle before it was too late,” said Herbst.

He said the KwaDukuza Fire and Emergency Rescue team was very quick to respond to contain the blaze.

“Both patients were transported to hospital in a critical condition,” said Herbst.
