Ballito’s derbylicious day

Ballito Lions Club host another successful soapbox derby.

Easter Sunday’s Ballito Lions Club soapbox derby was a day of great excitement for the young as well as the older adrenaline junkies on the Dolphin Coast.

With two truck loads of sand for a safe stop at the bottom and 320 tyres along the track, the lower end of Ballito Drive turned into a racer’s dream playground and before long the green flags were waving and the soapboxes were flying down the hill.

The Mozambik caddy carted racers up to the start line throughout the day, making sure the children were not wasting their energy on the trek to the start.

Supporters enjoyed a Boerewors roll and a cold drink, while watching, cheering and sometimes even pushing along the racers.

All in all, it was a fun day, with a few crashes and a lot of laughter and all of this was done in the name of charity, as the money was raised for underprivileged children.
