KZN tops Easter fatalities

Deaths on country's roads increased by almost 50%.

The number of fatalities over the Easter weekend has increased from 193 in 2014 to 287 in 2015.

Out of these numbers, the KwaZulu-Natal province recorded the most deaths during Easter claiming 19%, or 55 of the 287 fatalities.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation said there were 208 crashes on South Africa’s roads.

Out of these the accidents mostly involved pedestrians and single vehicles overturning.

Paul Herbst from IPSS Medical Rescue said they had their hands full from the start of April.

“From the first of April to April 8 we have transported 45 people to hospital following accidents and made nine aquatic rescues,” said Herbst.
