Put foot for bare feet
Taking on the road through Africa to provide school shoes for children.
Four Ballito boys are about to embark on an 18 day, 8 000 km adventure to hand out school shoes to barefoot children across Africa.
Professional cyclist and law student, Bradley Stroberg, together with his brother, Tyron and their friends Charles Slabbert and Mike Frames make up team Mufasa and are currently hard at work to raise money for a trip that will take them across five countries.
“The four of us are all students who are looking for an adventure that can make a difference,” said Stroberg.
The Put Foot Foundation has gifted over 10 000 pairs of shoes in just two years and it just keeps on growing.
The entry fee is R4 000 per person and each team needs to raise a minimum of 400 dollars, with which the shoes will be bought to be handed out during the rally.
Any money that is raised over and above the 400 dollars, can be donated to the team’s charity of choice.
“We have chosen the Fundimvelo Thula Thula Rhino Orphanage, ” he said.
Team Mufasa have decided that they will take the road less traveled during the 8 000km drive, as there are certain checkpoints that the teams have to go through, but how you get there is up to you.
The right wheels are a must for this epic trip and there are four categories to choose from.
“You can either go vintage with a pre 1990 car or more modern with a post 1990 car, an SUV, which we have chosen, or a motorbike.”
The young lions will be cruising in a borrowed Jeep Wrangler and will roar their way through Namibia, Zambia, Malawi and Inhambane, Mozambique.
“Through mountain biking, I have seen some of the most amazing places that not many people get to see and the Put Foot Rally is a chance to see more and learn about the cultures we have in Africa, while making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.”
The team will be capturing the trip on their GoPro cameras and will compile a documentary of the trip, which their sponsors can use on their social media.
To get involved, you can donate funds by going to their Facebook page and clicking on GivenGain, where you can donate money directly and easily to the Put Foot Rally Foundation and you will receive a tax receipt.
“Any donation goes a long way, so however much you decide to donate will be appreciated more than you will know. We will show some love in return with beautiful pictures and toasts to all our sponsors and donors with every beer, while watching the sunset in a random spot in Africa.”
