Soapbox brings clean water to those without

Ballito carwash to donate money to Charity Water.

Clean water is a luxury to only a few.

In Africa alone, people spend 40 billion hours every year walking for water.

Women and children usually bear the burden of water collection, walking miles to the nearest source, which is unprotected and likely contaminated.

Soapbox Carwash and Valet Centre at the Ballito Junction is supporting Charity Water, a non-profit organisation bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing countries.

Soapbox will donate $30 per month (approximately R350) to Charity Water on an ongoing basis.

This provides one person with clean water for a lifetime.

Soapbox owner, Cam Tyack said it was easy to take access to clean water for granted, so as a carwash in an affluent area they want to give back where they can.

“The amount of water used to wash a single car takes a rural girl a week to collect, and that water is not necessarily clean,” said Tyack.

Soapbox would like to encourage households and businesses on the North Coast to also donate on an ongoing basis.

Pop into Soapbox in the basement parking of the Ballito Junction Shopping Centre and find out how you can help bring clean water to those without or visit the campaign online.

Alternatively visit the Charity Water website www.charitywater.org to find out how you can start raising money and bring cleaner water to those in need.
