Serpent on the hunt
Ballito local captures the perfect moment when a green mamba strikes.
Local Ballito resident, Gaby Lyle captured this remarkable image of a green mamba swallowing his feather-weight prey.
This encounter took place in Lyle’s backyard.
Over the past three months, Lyle said they saw the snake a few times in the garden.
Lyle and her family now share their yard with this beautiful mamba as it has made their trees its new home.
After capturing this rare moment on camera, Lyle hopes that it will encourage other residents in the area not to kill these creatures on sight, but to accept them as essential to the survival of our local eco-system.
Snakes of all species help to manage the population of small birds, rodents, reptiles and amphibians while also providing a food source for many birds of prey as well as mammals like mongooses.
