The value of the freedom charter

ANC chairperson Baleka Mbete visits Groutville on Freedom Day.

The importance of every aspect of the Freedom Charter of the African National Congress was emphasised by national chairperson of the ANC and speaker of the house of assembly, Baleka Mbete, when she visited Groutville on Sunday, April 27.

Mbete instructed all ANC branches that the ten clauses of the charter should be implemented in all wards of the four municipalities of Ilembe.

“There should be someone deployed for each and every clause of the charter. If we do that we will be able to know that we are following the charter and people will know that we have not forgotten the freedom charter,” said Mbete.

Mbete went through each clause of the freedom charter and explained them to the crowd.

“The ANC is in the process of printing the freedom charter in all African languages. Everybody should have access to a copy of the freedom charter, to be able to know what the government should be providing. Then you can complain if you feel that the charter is not implemented in your ward,” said Mbete.

KwaZulu-Natal ANC secretary Sihle Zikalala spoke of the EFF march in Ballito a few weeks back.

“They are just opportunists with no legacy. If you used to get E and F symbols in school, your party is most likely to be named EFF,” said Zikalala.

The Freedom Day celebrations included food parcels being distributed to Thuthukani Old Age Day Care Center in Groutville.
