Newborn found in toilet pit

Fire department managed to get the boy out of the pit.

A newborn baby boy was found in a toilet pit in the early hours of this morning by a resident in Tongaat.

The Tongaat Fire Department was called out and with a rope, managed to retrieve the small child out of the toilet.

Paul Herbst from IPSS Medical Rescue said the IPSS advanced life support paramedic assessed the boy and found him to be in a stable condition.

“The child was transported to a local hospital for treatment,” said Herbst.

Soon after the ambulance departed, the community managed to locate the mother who was then taken to the Tongaat SAPS for questioning.
