Water problem in Driefontein not over

Residents have to rely on water trucks and unhygienic, underground water.

Residents of Driefontein have not been getting water from their taps since May last year.

Residents rely on water trucks that only come twice a week and pools of water that they say are dirty and unhealthy.

“We are facing a difficult situation because if the water truck does not come, we use the dirty underground water next to Qoqulwazi Secondary School, which is unhealthy,” said resident Dora Khoza.

Ilembe District municipality said the reason there was no water in the taps was because the pump station has repeatedly been broken into, power cables stolen and the borehole pump vandalised.
