Rehabilitation centre to be opened

The Destiny Youth Centre will establish the first rehab centre in KwaDukuza.

Destiny Youth Centre are renting a house as a start to establishing a much needed drug rehabilitation centre near Shakaskraal.

Counsellor Cheryl Moodley said that the two-bedroomed house in Vlak Spruit Farm in Cranbrook about seven kilometres from Shakaskraal, was acquired with the help of one of their counselee’s grandparents.

“The lack of rehabilitation centres in our area and the long waiting period at other rehabilitation centres has been one of our biggest concerns and we are very happy to be starting the first rehab in KwaDukuza,” said Moodley.

The two rooms can accommodate eight to ten bunk beds. There is also enough land to be able to extend the house when funds are available.

“Our plan is to arrange training in welding and mechanical engineering and there will also be some agricultural activities that will need to be done,” said Moodley.

The house is in need of renovation and the centre is appealing to the community to come on board and assist them in making the house a healthy and safe place for people to live in while they recover from addiction.

The needs include windowpanes, cement, bricks, jojo water tanks as well as bunks beds. Residents are encouraged to donate money to help the centre get on its feet.

“The sooner the house is renovated the sooner we can open the rehab. We already have a waiting list of five people,” said Moodley.
