Top of the Class
Former Ashton pupil claims top honours at University of Pretoria.
Ashton International’s first head prefect and matriculant of 2010, Deneil Habig clinched top honours at the University of Pretoria’s autumn graduation ceremony on April 30.
The young teacher-in-training achieved her Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree in Communication Management with distinction, and made the Dean’s Achievers’ list, as well as being re-awarded Academic Full Colours for the University of Pretoria.
At a pre-graduation ceremony, where keynote speaker Batabile Mageti, Multichoice’s value programme manager, addressed the notion of ‘authentic leadership’, Habig was announced as the top Communication graduate for the 2014 Honours degree.
In 2013, she scooped the top Marketing Award when completing her BComm Marketing Management (Cum Laude).
She has worked hard, achieving good enough marks to be invited to join the International Golden Key Honours Society in her first year, with only 15% of the 400 students of the degree afforded this elusive opportunity.
In 2014, Habig received the Alan Grey Achievers Award for placing in the top 100 of the Economic and Management Sciences Faculty at TUKS.
“It has been a long road, and hard work, putting in many hours often until the early hours of the morning,” said Habig.
“I believe that I was very well prepared by writing the IEB examinations and the grounding at Ashton definitely contributed to my success, as the final year has been project after project, presentations and research.”
Habig is currently studying for a post-graduate certificate in education through UNISA.
