One dead in N2 pile-up

Six vehicles were involved in the accident.

One person died and five others were injured after a multi-vehicle pile-up on the N2 near Fairbreeze in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

One truck lost control due to heavy smoke that limited visibility.

Three trucks and two motor vehicles, from both north and south, crashed into the truck.

Paul Herbst from IPSS Medical Rescue said one of the truck drivers were declared dead on scene.

“Advanced life support paramedics transported one critical patient to hospital and four with moderate injuries,” said Herbst.

The N2 highway was closed for traffic for a few hours.

Meanwhile, a car lost control in Ndwedwe, overturned and ploughed into six pedestrians that were standing next to the road.

Two patients were seriously injured and four suffered moderate injuries.
