The 13th edition of the fundraising event featured everything from kudu to crayfish.

Enticing aromas enveloped the surrounding community as chefs cooked up a storm at the Tongaat Ski Boat Club’s annual potjie competition on Saturday.

The 13th edition of the club’s popular fundraising event featured everything from kudu to crayfish, drawing a record crowd of more than 230 people. With plenty of hungry supporters on hand, no potjie went unfinished, making for a successful afternoon of food and fundraising.

Team OG claimed second place. Pictured are head chef Brett Kauffman with the Molgora family – Ant, Sher and Harper.

“We have a wonderful club and community with just under 100 members,” said club events co-ordinator Carmen Vanderwagen.

“The funds from the potjie competition go towards maintenance of the club and upkeep of machinery.”

The Butterlicious team of Donovan Raw, Pierre Scholtz, Ben Bucher and Jan Theunissen were crowned potjie kings, followed by Team OG in second place and the Green Chillies in third.

Brett Sangster and Ilse Weidemann from the Green Chillies team made an amadumbe and sugar bean dish that earned third place overall.

Vanderwagen thanked the sponsors of the day, including Wonderbag which donated a bag to each team.
