North Coast Courier Orphan Fund reports for August

Reporting on the quarterly allocations.

The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund committee met on July 15 to make the fund’s quarterly allocations.

The money raised (and distributed) during the months April through to July is reflected in the table.

A contestant in the Slimline Pool competition, Trenley Tilbrook, raised well over R30 000 for the Orphan Fund by getting individuals and companies to sponsor him.

The Umhlali ladies golf raised funds at a charity day and generously donated R16 000.

The Ilembe Chamber hosted their annual golf day and generously decided to again donate funds raised through this initiative. In total more than R6 000 was raised through this donation and the fun marshmallow drive competition held on the day.

Seeff Dolphin Coast increased their sponsorship of the Soles for Souls project and with their support the Fund was able to distribute more than 350 pairs of shoes to orphaned and vulnerable children.

The Ledbury church from the UK is a regular contributor and donated R13 350 to the Fund.

An amount of R3 590 was raised by the Orphan Fund by selling egg and bacon rolls at All Souls church family fun day. The balance of the money came from anonymous donations, many of which have been sowing faithfully into the Fund for many years.

The Orphan Fund supports orphan feeding schemes up and down the coast. Some of these schemes depend solely on the Orphan Fund to be able to continue their valuable work. The bulk of the money raised is used for food. Money is also allocated to transport costs to get children to school as well as for petrol for distribution of sell by date food.

It is difficult to quantify the exact numbers of children who are helped by the Fund, but it is in the region of 1 200. However it is likely that many vulnerable children still tragically fall through the cracks.

The Orphan Fund is audited and registered as a non-profit organization and has also been approved by the Receiver of Revenue for tax exemption. This means that donors can receive a tax deduction on donations made.
