Emergency landing on Durban North beach
A pilot was unharmed after landing a plane on a Durban beach.
A pilot had to carry out an emergency landing on Durban’s North Beach on Sunday afternoon.
KZN EMS paramedics on scene said the pilot was reportedly taking the plane on a test flight and was on his way back to the airport when the incident occurred.
KZN EMS and fire fighters from Ethekwini fire department responded to the crash at around 2.30pm.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the 30-year-old pilot safely out of the aircraft and talking on his cell phone with air traffic control.
He was examined by an advanced life support paramedic from KZN EMS, and after recovering from the initial “shock” of the incident, it was confirmed that he had not sustained any injuries and he decided that he did not wish to be taken to hospital.
Fortunately there were not many people on the beach when the pilot had to perform the emergency landing, but drew a large crowd of onlookers afterwards.
The incident will be investigated.
