Whale carcass near Nonoti River

Locals helped themselves to the meat and fat.

A humpback whale carcass washed out near Nonoti River over the weekend.

According to Cliff Hatt, a Zinkwazi resident, lots of meat was already taken from the left side of the whale when he was there on Monday.

“There was a wonderful mood amongst local folk hacking away and filling buckets and packets with fat and red meat plus items used in muti,” said Hatt who sent us these pictures.

Hatt said the rest of the whale washed away between Monday and Tuesday.

“A friend of mine was there this morning and everything washed away. You wouldn’t believe there was a massive carcass on the beach,” said Hatt.
