Balllito Rotary helps seafarers in need

Rotary club donates blankets for mission.

Ballito Rotary met an unusual need recently when they donated blankets to the Mission to Seafarers.

Rotary President, Ken Lever, dropped off the blankets at All Souls Umhlali for distribution. Revd Thami Tembe, Chaplain to Mission to Seafarers, collected them on Thursday and expressed his gratitude for the support of Rotary. He invited anybody with an interest in the seafaring world to visit their centre in Durban.

The Mission to Seafarers was started in 1839 to provide support to seafarers in the Bristol Channel. Centres around the world now provide help and hope to seafarers in distress in 71 countries and in 260 ports irrespective of religion or nationality. Their logo of a Flying Angel has come to be trusted world-wide.

When the Phoenix landed on the rocks at Sheffield Beach on July 26, 2011, Mission to Seafarers was there working behind the scenes to ensure the crew were looked after and that they made it safely home to India.
