Stanger armed robbers failed to steal any cash

Police said no stone will be left unturned to track down suspects.

The group of armed robbers that tried to rob a Standard Bank in King Shaka Street in Stanger in the early hours of Wednesday morning, fled without any cash.

It was initially reported that about 20 men bombed six ATM’s at the bank, but KZN police spokesperson Thulani Zwane said no ATM was actually bombed.

“The suspects attempted to break into one of the ATM’s however they fled when police arrived. No ATM was robbed and no money was taken,” said Zwane.

He said they are concerned that such a large number of individuals were involved in the attempt to rob the bank and that they opened fire on police officers.

KwaDukuza SAPS and the Hawks are investigating, no arrest have yet been made.
